Places to Visit
Promenade along the beaches of a mythical city, feel the warmness of a traditional life in the 17th century fortified residential quarter or Kasbah, explore modest streets and share moments of romance while drinking mint tea in one of the oldest cafés in the city, Café Al Hafa. Taste the flavor of a delcious cuisine and have a professional masseur in luxurious spa's. Tangier assures an adventurous stay and always has something to offer to the visitors.
The Kasbah
Built on the highest point of the city and isolated from the rest of the medina by its walls. Tangier’s 17th century fortified residential quarter, or Kasbah, is a place of arcades, winding alleys and hidden terraces, where it is possible to wander among the wealthy homes and sometimes manage a peep behind the facades, enjoying views of the Medina and the bay, where you can see two continents at once. The gate opens onto a large courtyard which leads to the Dar el-Makhzen, the former Sultan's Palace and recently became the Museum of Moroccan Art and Antiquities, known as the Kasbah Museum.
The Grand Socco
Ancient modest place in Tangier. Grand Socco used to be the main market place for moroccans. Nowadays, the square is more like a city crossroads, fronted by cafés, outside the walled in, old part of the city. Colourful and attracting, the Grand Socco is the point where the modern city meets the old town, Medina.
On the north side you will admire the luxurious Mendoubia Gardens, and the mosaic-studded minaret of the Sidi Bou Abid Mosque to the west.
Place de France
One of the focal points for activities in Tangier, surrounded by modern cafés, France Consulate and a lovely coulourful fountain, Place de France is a small peaceful French-looking square, where Parisian Elegance meets Tangier Traditions, and where locals and tourists stop to have a coffee and share unforgettable memories.
